“i’m great! i was just… in the area and hungry, thought you might be too.” of course phoebe wasn’t in the area and had no reason to assume joel would be hungry, but she says it casually enough that she hopes she can get away with it. steps instead his place before he can rescind the offer too. “i’ve got breakfast sandwiches and coffee — if you’re in the mood for those?”

her sister had left the state for two weeks which meant two weeks of having an apartment to herself. phoebe had never had this sort of freedom before and it only took four days for her to make rookie mistake number one: leaving the apartment without her keys. she’d managed to get into the building as one of her many neighbours left however that left her camped outside her door at 10pm on a friday night. far from ideal. when she heard a steps coming down the hallway she perked up in excitement, hoping for it to be the landlord making an exception and coming to let her in at the late hour… and instead finding it to be the occupant of the home next door. someone that made her nose scrunch in irritation. “do you wanna take a picture?” after all, she was sure she looked quite the sight sprawled out on the floor with her back to the wall.

"good thing i decided to pop by then, huh?" phoebe grins at the fact they're happy to welcome her in. she'd been a little nervous just showing up like this unannounced but it doesn't stop her from shuffling inside the second that oakley lets her. "i was in the area," she admits, only a half-truth, "and i hate sitting in places alone so... here i am."

“oh, you are, huh?” phoebe muttered with a little nod, pursing her lips. she couldn’t blame finley for not seeing what was happening here — the only reason that she did was because she’d happened upon them first. “well! i have some good news and bad news for you.” she tried to sound a little more chipper about it than she was, offering him a half-smile. “good news is? your date didn’t bail on you. bad news is? it’s me.”

"i was making sure you weren't dead, since you never called."

“no offence, but what is the point of having a tall boyfriend if you’re not going to decorate my christmas tree with me? you’re perfect for putting the star on in the end!” phoebe’s mini-rant was cut off by her own realisation that she’d referred to him as her boyfriend. that wasn’t exactly something they’d really talked about; having just decided to ‘see where things went’ but it definitely felt like the right term to use when she thought about heath. “are you... um... hm. are we doing gifts this year?”

“can you just let me in? it’s already embarrassing enough that i’m here.” she sniffs, idly wiping at her eyes with the sleeves of her shirt. it doesn’t matter how many times phoebe promises herself that she isn’t going to do this anymore. somehow, she ends up here the second a sip of alcohol passes her lips. “please?”

phoebe doesn’t have too many friends, her social skills are… selective, to say the least. she doesn’t need lots of friends, though. just one good one. one good one who’d been so nice as to invite her to a friend-of-a-friend-of-the-guy-she-was-seeing’s-birthday party. it was all a ridiculous if you asked her but it was an excuse to let loose a little bit. “i’m phoebe, it’s nice to meet you,” she greeted with a forced smile as her friend introduced her to them before immediately darting off to go talk to someone else, leaving her stood there completely stumped. “ —uh… hi, i guess?”
